Generous in so Many Ways

Shared byBrian M.

I had the opportunity to meet Bill in person on two occasions, and he left a lasting impression on me each time. He spoke with me as if we were old friends, asking about my job and my love of music with a curiosity that felt completely genuine.

I was fortunate enough to have worked with his brother Bruce before he passed away, and that’s how I came to meet Bill. On one occasion, Bill was even gracious enough to introduce me to his mom. Who does that? That small gesture said so much about the kind of person he was.

Over the years, whether I was at a sporting event, an Electric Waste Band show, or a charity function, I would always keep my eyes peeled for that tall redhead in the crowd, treating everyone he met as if they were a longtime friend.

Those encounters encouraged me to learn more about Bill, and I eventually read both of his books. The more I learned about him, the more I appreciated what made him so special. Bill was truly a larger-than-life character, yet somehow he had a way of making people like me feel as though we were the important ones.

I think that’s what I’ll remember most about him.
